This year’s Summer Institute will focus on how schools can become a protective environment for students through the development of culturally responsive practices.  The keynote speaker, Margaret Beale Spencer, is nationally known for her work in racial identity development as well as the self-efficacy and resilience of adolescents.  Dr. Spencer’s recent re-creation of the landmark Doll Test from the 1940s was seen on CNN and brought a renewed focus on how students perceive skin color in today’s classrooms.  Additional breakout sessions will address how schools are creating culturally responsive environments that nurture healthy self-confidence and achievement.

For those of you looking to stay in the city overnight, we recommend the Cooper Square Hotel.   Just blocks from Washington Square Park and the Kimmel Center, this modern hotel is a great place to relax in the midst of all the action.  They have agreed to a special price of $225.00 a night for our participants.  Simply give them a call and let them know you will be attending the Summer Institute and they will make the reservation from the block of rooms being held until June 13th.
